BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Montevallo infielder Joel Chandler has been named Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week after helping lead the Falcons to a perfect 4-0 record, the league announced Tuesday.

Chandler hit .667 (8-for-12) on the week, recording a triple, two RBI, and two runs scored. He opened with a 2-for-3 performance in Tuesday's 8-5 win over Columbus State, then added another two-hit outing in Friday's series opener against AUM. Chandler capped the weekend with a career day at the plate in the series finale, going 4-for-5 with a triple, two RBI, and a run scored to help secure the sweep over the Warhawks. Defensively, Chandler was flawless at shortstop, recording no errors across 20 total chances.

Chandler and the Falcons begin postseason play Friday against No. 6 seed Trevecca in the opening round of the GSC Tournament. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
