MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer's 2026 home opener featured a 4-1 win for the Falcons over in-state foe West Alabama in a non-conference matchup.
The Falcons opened the game with their foot on the gas firing five shots with one on frame in the first 22 minutes before
Janelle Torres broke the ice on an assist from
Lainey Farabaugh and gave Montevallo a lead in the 27
th minute. Montevallo's defense held UWA to just one shot in the final 20 minutes of the second half to head into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore
Ayla Ertekin extended Montevallo's lead to 2-0 with
Karsyn Ross credited her first assist of the night. After a stretch with three Montevallo shots on goal and none from the Tigers, West Alabama cut the lead in half at the 76
th minute. Just a few minutes later,
Batie Casey found a goal after cleaning up a chance the careened around the box to put the Falcons up by a score of 3-1. Ross secured Montevallo's win over UWA with UM's fourth goal of the night in the 86
th minute.
