JACKSON, Tenn. – Katie Wilkerson's 16 kills led Montevallo to a 3-0 victory over Union in Montevallo's conference opener on the road.
In the game's opening set, Montevallo posted a total of 15 kills on a .297 hitting mark en route to a 25-20 win to take an early lead overall. With the game at a 20-19 score late, Montevallo went on a 5-1 run over the final six points behind four Falcon kills to take the first set.
Katie Wilkerson started her night with four kills in the opening set while
Ellie Scharlow's first set also saw four kills.
The game's second set saw UM pull away early with a 10-3 run spurred on by five Montevallo kills and four Union errors. With Montevallo leading by as many as eight in the second, the Falcons took a 25-15 win with four- kills in the final five points before the run was capped by a Union error for the set point. A total of seven different Falcons posted a kill in the second with Wilkerson posting a team-high three.
The third and final set of the night ended with a score of 26-24 in favor of the Falcons with UM posting 20 kills and a .356 hitting mark. After a back-and-forth first half of the set, Wilkerson scored five on the final 12 points for Montevallo with Scharlow and
Eliza Tyrrell posting back-to-back kills in the closing stages to give Montevallo its conference-opening win.
