CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Montevallo volleyball improved to a 3-0 start to Gulf South Conference play with a five-set win over Lee on the road.
Montevallo opened the first set on an 8-0 run spurred on by three kills from
Katie Wilkerson to take control of the first set. Later in the first set,
Mae Mae Beatty recorded three-straight aces to give Montevallo a 15-8 lead. In the closing stages of the first set,
Eliza Tyrrell posted three of Montevallo's final four points to win the first set by a score of 25-19.
The second set saw the scoring go back-and-forth with neither side gaining more than a three-point lead throughout the set. The Falcons held the slim lead to open the set before Lee would take its first lead of the set at 16-15 and would not relinquish the advantage taking the second set 25-22.
The third set began with another round of back-and-forth scoring before Lee took an early 9-6 lead with three-consecutive kills. The Lady Flames would stretch the lead to five but a 4-0 run from the Falcons closed the gap to 14-13. After the Falcons took a 19-17 lead, UM outscored Lee 6-1 with five kills from three separate Falcons to win the third set 25-19.
Lee took control of the fourth set early with a 12-1 run to jump out in front 16-6. Despite a 6-0 Montevallo run with a pair of kills from
Mallory Hulsey, Lee would force a fifth set after taking the fourth 25-17.
To start the final set, Montevallo ran out in front with a six-point run with a trio of aces from
Ellie Scharlow to take a 6-2 lead. Lee responded with a run of its own to knot the score at 8-8 midway through the set. With the game tied 12-12, Hulsey's kill gave Montevallo a one-point advantage before back-to-back kills from
Kate Wilkin sealed the final set for Montevallo's third-straight round conference road win.

- The Falcons posted a .208 hitting percentage with a total of 61 kills on the night while Lee hit for .303 with 65 kills.
- Lee's defense recorded 83 digs on the night to go along with nine blocks while Montevallo added 63 digs and five blocks.
- Montevallo's recorded a season-high 16 aces in the five-set win while allowing just one from the Lady Flames.
- Katie Wilkerson led Montevallo's hitters with 21 kills and a .327 hitting percentage while Eliza Tyrrell added 15 kills with a .279 hitting mark.
- Blakeley Robbins served up 31 assists on the night for a new season high while Lily Erdal added 21 assists.
UP NEXT: Montevallo will now travel to Huntsville, Ala. on Friday, Sept. 25 to take on UAH at 6 p.m.
