UNTSVILLE, Ala. – Montevallo volleyball dropped its first Gulf South Conference matchup of the season on the road at UAH on Friday night.
After the Falcons took an early lead in the first set, the Chargers went on a 12-3 run to go ahead 14-7 midway through the first set. UAH kept Montevallo out of reach in the second half of the opening set despite four kills from the Falcons to take the first set 25-15.
Montevallo tallied five kills and an ace four separate Falcons to open the second set, but UAH answered each point to tie the score 9-9. The score remained close throughout the middle of the set with
Mallory Hulsey leading Montevallo with three kills, but UAH would take a 20-17 lead late. UAH closed the second set on a 5-1 run to head into the final set with a 2-0 overall lead.
The Chargers took another early lead in the third set but three kills from
Eliza Tyrrell and
Katie Wilkerson helped Montevallo knot the score a 13-13. UAH would respond with a 7-2 run to go up 20-15. Montevallo battled back behind four kills from Tyrrell to tie the third set at 22 apiece. Montevallo would later take a 25-24 lead for set point but UAH scored three-straight points to end the game and give UM its first conference loss of the season.

- Montevallo was held to just 36 kills, its lowest mark in GSC action, on a .175 hitting percentage with 59 digs from the Chargers.
- UAH hit .286 on the night with a total of 47 kills despite 49 digs from Montevallo.
- Eliza Tyrrell led Montevallo's hitters with 11 kills while Katie Wilkerson and Mallory Hulsey each added nine.
- Blakeley Robbins recorded a total of 20 assists with Lily Erdal posting 13 across three sets.
- Ava Wind led the back line with 17 digs while Ellie Scharlow added 12 to go along with eight from Robbins.
