Montevallo Falls to North Greenville in Neutral Site Matchup

AIKEN, S.C. – Montevallo ended its road trip to South Carolina with a 3-1 loss to North Greenville on Day 2 of the USC Aiken Invitational.
 
The Falcons opened the final game of the tournament with a back-and-forth 25-23 loss to the Trailblazers in a first set the saw Montevallo trail by as many as five points late. Late kills from Mae Mae Beatty and Lily Singleton helped tie the score 23-23 nearly completed a comeback win in the first set but miscues from UM gave NGU a 1-0 lead.
 
Montevallo took a five-point win in the second set to knot the overall score at 1-1 with 17 kills and a .333 hitting percentage for the 25-20 win. After Eliza Tyrrell tied the second set at 18-18, the Falcons used a 7-2 run with five kills and an ace to close the second set.
 
Montevallo battled for set three with a total of 14 kills on a .103 hitting mark but a late run from North Greenville paired with late miscues from UM left Montevallo trailing 2-1 heading into the fourth.
 
The fourth and final set saw Montevallo struggle offensively with seven kills to 14 from the Trailblazers with NGU taking a 25-12 victory in the fourth to hand Montevallo its second defeat of the season.

GAME NOTES
  • Both sides posted a total of 52 kills with North Greenville gaining the edge in hitting percentage with a .224 mark compared to .130 from Montevallo.
  • The Trailblazers defense recorded 78 digs to 62 from Montevallo while NGU tallied 10 blocks to five from UM.
  • Elise Hansen highlight Montevallo's attack with 11 kills and just three errors for a .421 hitting mark while adding three blocks.
  • Eliza Tryrrell posted 11 kills while adding six digs and a block assist for 11.5 total points.
