MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team (7-8, 3-3 PBC) suffered a tough shooting night on the road at Georgia College and State University (12-3, 4-3 PBC) as the Falcons lost 57-42. UM shot just 29.8 percent from the field, its second lowest percentage of the season. The Falcons were led by senior Tiaren Young (Forestdale, Ala./Minor) who scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds. Junior Davia Harris (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway) chipped in eight points and four rebounds as well.
Senior Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) and junior Taylor Welch (Salem, Ill./Salem Community) each contributed six points to the effort.
Both teams struggled offensively as GCSU only hit 37.3 percent of its shots compared to UM's 29.8 percent.
GCSU opened the game with a 9-2 run and never looked back. Their largest lead of the half came at the 13:18 mark as a free throw gave the Bobcats an 11-point lead. UM answered with a 7-0 run to cut the lead back to four but that would be as close as the Falcons would get in the half as the Bobcats maintained a small cushion. As time expired in the first half the Falcons trailed 30-24.
In the second half the Bobcats continued to steadily build their lead eventually gaining its largest lead of the night with 13 seconds left in the game up 57-40. A jumper from Carrie Parrott with six seconds remaining cut the lead to 15 and that would be how the game ended with the Bobcats up 57-42.
The Falcons will return to action Monday, Jan. 24 at 4:30 p.m. as they travel to North Georgia College and State University for another Peach Belt Conference match-up.
