Falcons Crush Hornets, 107-51

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (11-2) dominated the Hornets of Concordia College-Selma from the opening whistle and never relented as the Falcons scored their second-highest point total this season, 107-51. UM was led by a trio of 20-point performances. Senior's DeMarcus Catchings (Arlington, Texas/Cedar Valley College) and Chauncey Thompson (Chattanooga, Tenn./Cleveland State) each had 21 points while senior Jervan Jackson (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands/Technical Career Institutes) chipped in 20 points.

Catchings tied for second in the UM record book for field goal percentage in a game with a minimum of 10 attempts. He was 9-of-10 from the field good for 90 percent which tied him with Greg Brown (2006-07) for second in the record book. Brown also was 9-fo-10 against Tuskegee on December 5, 2005. Thompson tied for fifth in the record books while hitting 9-of-11 shots from the field good for 81.8 percent. He tied with four others who also hit 9-of-11. The most recent was Marcus Kennedy (2004-07) who was 9-of-11 against the University of West Florida on February 17, 2007. Jackson was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field but did not take the minimun number of attempts to break into the record book.

Catchings added six rebounds to his total including five offensive boards. Thompson had four rebounds while Jackson had five.

Junior Danny Cummins (Charlotte, N.C./Chipola College) and freshman Ryan May (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) each had 13 points. May added a second-high nine assists, five steals and five rebounds. Cummins had a pair of rebounds and a pair of assists.

Junior Drico Hightower (Augusta, Ga./Angelina College) led the team in rebounding with 14 boards while scoring five points and dishing out three assists. He also led the team with three blocks.

The Falcons shot 53.2 percent from the field including 60.2 percent in the second half. The Hornets hit just 31.6 percent and a measly 20 percent in the first half. UM outscored CCS 66-26 in the paint and 35-11 off turnovers. UM won the turnover battle 25-14. UM's bench outscored the Selma bench 46-3.

The Hornets were able to keep UM's lead to within 10 points for the opening 10 minutes of the game but a free throw from Hightower with 9:45 left in the first half gave UM a 25-15 lead which UM would never relinquish. UM's largest lead came at the end of the game as the Falcons led by 56 points, 107-51.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Jan. 7 at 2:30 p.m. as they travel to UNC Pembroke for a Peach Belt Conference contest. Both teams are undefeated in Peach Belt Conference play.
