MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo junior Taylor Beverly recorded the Falcons' first triple-double in six years in a 104-71 loss to visiting UAH in a non-conference game at Trustmark Arena.
Beverly finished with 19 points while grabbing a career-high 18 rebounds and recording a career-best 10 blocked shots against the Chargers, who advanced to the South Region semifinals in the NCAA Division II Tournament a year ago. Beverly is the first women's basketball player at Montevallo to register a triple-double since Malissa Harris posted a triple-double against UAH on Jan. 8, 2007.
Beverly, a preseason All-Peach Belt Conference selection, finished 5-of-14 from the floor and 9-of-9 at the charity stripe.
Senior Shay Bonner also contributed 19 points for the Falcons (0-2) on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor.
Sophomores Katie Colson, who grabbed seven boards, and Jacquelyn Thompson finished with eight points each. Freshman Bre'ana Singleton added seven points, while sophomore Jasmine Thomas finished with six points. Singleton and freshman Ellie Mouyal shared the team lead with four assists each.
Bonner gave Montevallo its only lead in the game following a layup with 16:38 remaining in the first half, which gave the Falcons a 10-9 advantage. The Falcons kept the margin close through the rest of the opening half, with a 3-pointer by Jasmine Hammon giving UAH a 37-26 lead, its largest in the first half with 3:20 remaining.
Montevallo trimmed the deficit to 40-33 heading into the locker room at halftime following a layup by Bonner late in the half.
UAH outscored the Falcons 64-38 in the second half to secure the victory.
The Falcons return to action Wednesday, Nov. 20 with a home game against the University of West Georgia.
Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Trustmark Arena.
