Falcons remain undefeated following 83-65 win over Stillman

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo junior Ed'Lexus Collier poured in a team-high 18 points while classmate Da-Juan Cooper posted his first career double-double to lead the Falcons to a 83-65 win over visiting Stillman College in a non-conference game Dec. 3 at Trustmark Arena.

The Falcons, ranked No. 12 in the latest NABC Division II poll, saw four players score in double figures as they ran their record to 6-0 on the season.

Collier led the way with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. Cooper added 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor and a 2-of-3 performance at the charity stripe to go along with a game-high 14 rebounds in the victory.

Junior Troran Brown contributed 16 points and a game-high eight assists, while senior Orlando Brazier chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds.

Junior Shykeem Jackson finished with nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Fellow junior Larry Slaughter contributed five points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

Junior Ryan May chipped in four points and four assists in his first appearance during the regular season.

Montevallo jumped out to an early 12-5 lead following a layup by Collier with 15:55 remaining before Stillman tied it up at 15-15 with a layup by Torean Walker four minutes later.

The Falcons then closed the first half with a dominant 30-11 run, capped with a jumper by May and a free throw by Cooper, to carry a 45-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Montevallo continued its impressive streak in the opening minutes of the second half with a 22-9 run. Brazier capped the run with a layup with 12:31 remaining in the game, which gave the Falcons a 67-35 advantage.

The Falcons took their largest lead, 78-40, following a pair of free throws by Slaughter with 8:45 remaining in the game.

Montevallo will return to action Saturday, Dec. 7 with a trip to Pensacola, Fla., to take on the University of West Florida in its final non-conference game.

Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.

The Falcons will be back in action at Trustmark Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 17 as they host GRU Augusta in Peach Belt Conference play.
