BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has named Montevallo's Derek Moore as one of its 2026 Top Ten Award recipients after a stellar senior season from the Birmingham, Ala. native.

Moore becomes the sixth Falcon to earn the conference's Top Ten award and the first Falcon to be named Top Ten since Allie Dishman back in the 2022-23 season. Moore's senior season featured an NABC Division II All-America selection after being named GSC Player of the Year and First Team All-GSC. The Birmingham, Ala. native also added a Division II Conference Commissioners Association Academic All-Region with a 3.5 cumulative GPA as a business management major. The senior forward has tallied an average of 18.0 points per game to rank fourth in the GSC while shooting a league-high 61.8-percent from the floor. Moore added an average of 6.7 rebounds per game to rank seventh among conference leaders while also recording 2.4 assists in his 29 appearances. The Birmingham, Ala. native set the Montevallo single-game record with a 51-point performance against West Florida on Jan. 17 while tying the Falcons' top mark with 20 made free throws in the same outing.
 
The award recognizes the top female and top male student-athletes for their athletic, academic, and extracurricular achievements, during the 2025-26 academic year. One men's and women's sport student-athlete will also be awarded the Commissioner's Trophy, which is the conference's most prestigious individual honor and will be announced in-person at the GSC Awards Ceremony.
 
The GSC Top Ten Award recipients are selected with the assistance of an advisory committee representing Athletics Directors, Senior Woman Administrators (SWA), Athletic Communication Directors, Faculty Athletic Representatives, and Presidents from randomly selected GSC schools, which makes a recommendation to the Commissioner, who has the final decision.
 
Honorees will be celebrated Thursday, May 28 in Pensacola, Fla., as part of the 2026 GSC Awards and Hall of Fame Ceremony presented by Caldwell Architects. The evening will be streamed at no charge, on the conference's YouTube channel.
