Montevallo alum named assistant baseball coach at Auburn University

AUBURN, Ala. – Doug Sisson, a former University of Montevallo baseball player and assistant coach, has been named an assistant coach at Auburn University.

Sisson, who played at Montevallo from 1983-85 for head coach Bob Riesener, began his collegiate coaching career under Riesener with two seasons as an assistant coach for the Falcons from 1987-88, helping the Falcons capture the Southern States Conference Championship and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) District 27 Championship in 1988.

Sisson spent three seasons at Birmingham-Southern College from 1988-1991 and helped the Panthers claim the Southern States Conference Championship in 1991.

Sisson began his professional coaching career in 1991 as a minor league hitting/fielding coach in the Texas Rangers organization. Sisson was given his first position as a minor league manager in the organization prior to the start of the 1993 season and spent the next 11 years managing minor league affiliates within the Texas Rangers, Montreal Expos and Anaheim Angels organizations.

Sisson guided three different teams to a league championship and was named the Manager of the Year twice within his league during his professional coaching career.

Sisson spent the next three years as a minor league fielding coordinator in the Washington Nationals organization before joining the baseball program at the University of Georgia as an Associate Head Coach, with hitting coach and recruiting coordinator responsibilities, from 2006-07.

Sisson then returned to the professional ranks as a minor league coordinator of instruction in the Kansas City Royals organization from 2008-10 before joining the Royals as a the first base coach, as well as outfield coach and base running coach, for the 2011-12 seasons.

Sisson spent the past three years as a minor league outfield coach and base running coordinator for the Chicago White Sox organization before joining the coaching staff at Auburn University.

Sisson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications from the University of Montevallo in 1986 before finishing his Master of Science degree in Physical Education from the University in 1988.

Sisson and his wife Angela have two daughters, Tori and Delaney.
