MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its annual All-Region teams on Friday, with Montevallo's Zach Wyatt and Jack Fitzgerald earning Second Team All-South Region honors.
Wyatt earned Second Team All-South Region honors after turning in one of the top pitching seasons in the Gulf South Conference. The righthander finished the year 7-4 with a 4.17 ERA across 90.2 innings. His 89 strikeouts ranked third in the conference and in the top 20 across all NCAA Division II pitchers. Among Wyatt's top performances was a complete-game shutout in a 1-0 victory over Delta State on Apr. 2. He also recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts against Valdosta State on Mar. 20 and pitched at least 7.0 innings in seven starts during the season.
Fitzgerald picked up Second Team recognition at first base following an impressive debut season for the Falcons. The Braintree, Mass., native led Montevallo in several offensive categories, batting .317 with 52 hits, 12 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, and 40 RBI. He also posted a team-best 1.125 OPS and .671 slugging percentage, with both marks ranking fourth in the GSC. Fitzgerald recorded 13 multi-hit performances during the season.
