MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team plated 19 runs on 22 hits on its way to a 19-7 win Feb. 15 over visiting Albany State University in the final game of the 2015 Montevallo Baseball Classic presented by Huddle House at Kermit A. Johnson Field.
The Falcons' 19 runs marked the most runs in a game in three years.
Twelve different players registered a hit in the victory for the Falcons, who improved to 2-4 overall on the season.
Freshman Kale Latorre led the Falcons at the plate for the second game in a row as he finished 3-for-6 with a triple. Latorre drove in two runs and scored one run in the win.
Sophomore Jacob Whiting and junior Harrison Foster, who entered the game as a pinch-hitter, also finished with three hits. Whiting, who scored two runs and drove in two runs, and Foster, who drove in two runs and scored one run, each went 3-for-3 at the plate.
Junior Thomas Bradey, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles. Junior Chase Bryant, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, also finished 2-for-4 at the plate.
Senior Vinny Rodriguez, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, finished 2-for-2 at the plate. Junior Jeremy Hyde, who scored three runs, went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double.
Sophomore Dane Hutcheon, who drove in three runs and scored two runs, went 1-for-2 at the plate with a triple. Senior Matthew Haskins, who drove in one run and scored one run, finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a double.
Sophomore Alex Jones, who drove in one run, finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a double. Freshman Collin Dupree, who drove in one run and scored two runs, went 1-for-3 at the plate. Senior Alec Stiver also finished 1-for-3 at the plate.
Junior Steven Knudson drove in one run and scored one run.
Sophomore Alex Pondick (1-1) picked up his first win of the year after allowing just one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts and one walk in five innings of action.
Freshmen Drew Mullinax, who recorded one strikeout, and Matthew Herrin, who struck out two batters, each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Junior Taylor Burr also pitched a perfect inning in relief with one strikeout.
The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 18 with a trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to take on Stillman College.
First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
