HOW IT HAPPENED
Spring Hill opened the match with an aggressive approach in the early stages of the first half, firing off five shots within the first 25 minutes. Three of the Badgers' attempts were deflected by Montevallo defenders, protecting starting keeper Ellie Mouyal.
Mouyal recorded two saves late in the opening half before giving way to sophomore Katie Pearson.
The Falcons turned up the intensity in the second half, with three opportunities within the first five minutes of the half. Attempts by sophomores MJ Gray and Hampton Brinson were turned away by Spring Hill keeper Maggie Dalessio.
Montevallo remained aggressive in the two overtime periods, forcing a pair of corner kicks and firing off four shots in the extra 20 minutes.
STAT OF THE MATCH
The Falcons owned a 14-8 advantage in shot attempts and a 7-3 edge in attempts on goal in the scoreless tie, marking the first time this season Montevallo has had the edge in scoring chances through its first four matches. The Falcons outshot the Badgers 11-2 in the final 65 minutes of the match.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS
Sophomore Taylor Gonzalez continues to be the Falcons' lead attacker. The Overland Park, Kansas native fired off four shots against Spring Hill, running her season total to 10 shots and five shots on goal.
Goalkeepers Ellie Mouyal and Katie Pearson continue to split time for the Falcons. With the exception of the second half against UAH, the duo has had a strong start to the season. Pearson recorded two saves against Spring Hill to run her total to 10 saves this season, while Mouyal posted one save to give her 12 on the year.
The Falcons are on pace to set a new mark for ties in a single season. Montevallo has ended matches in a scoreless tie against Lincoln Memorial and Spring Hill through its first four matches. The record for most ties in a single season came in the 2013 season, when the Falcons finished with five ties on the year.
QUOTABLE
Head Coach Robert Lane
"I felt like we were organized behind the ball, limited the chances that Spring Hill was able to create, and this was the first time that we were had any exciting movement going toward and in front of the ball then, in the final third. We are struggling putting things in the back of the net. But, overall it is a pleasure to creating opportunities and especially creating them at home. We've done well at home to really play an exciting new game of soccer and hopefully the crowd is enjoying that."
"We play a unique style and unique system. It's going to become routine to make sure for when we do get the opportunity, and we talk about the fact that you may or may not get an opportunity in the game, but when you do find an opportunity, you make sure that you deliver and put the ball in the back of the net."
Senior Charlotte Crisp
"The girls definitely gave all of their effort that they could. We didn't utilize the wings as much we could have and we definitely make it harder on ourselves to score and actually come away with a result. We still have a lot to work on in the front."
"We need to just be confident in ourselves because we do have the players to put the ball in the back of the net."
