HOW IT HAPPENED
Augusta scored the game-winning run on a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning to secure a sweep of Montevallo in a Peach Belt Conference series with a walk-off 8-7 win over the Falcons at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
Montevallo took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when junior Matthew Furuto reached on a leadoff walk before scoring on a two-run homer by senior Jeremy Hyde.
The Jaguars took a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the frame on a on a RBI single by Nick Rau and a two-run single by Drew Taylor.
The Falcons plated four runs in the top of the second inning to take a 6-3 lead. Senior Thomas Bradey led off the frame with a solo home run. Freshman Tyler Krabbe, who reached on a walk, and Furuto, who reached on a single, came around to score on a two-run single to center field by senior Taylor Walker. Hyde also scored on the play on an error by the Jaguars.
Augusta scored one run in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run by Clint Hardy and one run in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI sacrifice fly by Cole Thompson to cut the Falcons' lead to 6-5.
Montevallo pushed its lead to 7-5 with one run in the top of the sixth inning. Junior Alex Jones reached on a single before being replaced by senior pinch runner Chase Bryant. Bryant came around to score on a RBI single by junior Dane Hutcheon.
The Jaguars tied the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-run homer by Hunter Boose.
The Falcons managed just one hit over the next three innings before Blue Sanderson scored the game-winning run for Augusta in the bottom half of the 11th inning when Thompson reached on a walk with the bases loaded.
STAT OF THE GAME
The top of the order, from leadoff to the cleanup spot, produced 11 of the Falcons' 15 hits and drove in five runs in the contest.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS
Sophomore Kale Latorre registered a career-high five strikeouts in a 2 1/3 inning relief stint. Latorre, who took the loss, allowed one earned run on two hits while walking four batters.
Junior Matthew Furuto, the Falcons' leadoff hitter, recorded a career-high four hits as he finished 4-for-5 at the plate and scored a pair of runs.
Senior Jeremy Hyde blasted his sixth home run of the season with his two-run homer in the first inning. Hyde is tied with teammate Taylor Walker, along with Zach Moon of USC Aiken and John Mangum of Lander as Peach Belt Conference home run leaders with his six homers.

The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, March 2 with a doubleheader against Tuskegee University at Kermit A. Johnson Field. First pitch in the opening game of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
