HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons and the Bearcats faced off in the final game of the series on Sunday, February 26 with the Falcons coming away with a 12-4 victory.

Lander scored in the top of the first inning on a single down the right field line to make it a 1-0 game.

Montevallo responded in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own to tie the game 1-1.  Daniel Pardo led off the inning with a single and then was scored later in the inning on a wild pitch from Lander's Sam Linn.

The Bearcats took a two-run lead in the top of the second inning when Ryan Troutman connected for a two-RBI home run to make it a 3-1 ballgame.

The Falcons responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Lander lead to 3-2.  Collin Dupree scored Dom DeVille on a groundout to the shortstop.

Lander made it a 4-2 ballgame in the third inning on a solo homerun.

The Falcons made it a 4-3 game in the fifth inning when Sebastian Samuels singled to left field to score Matthew Furuto.

In the sixth inning, the Falcons broke the game open and scored five runs to take an 8-4 lead over the Bearcats.  Furuto tied the game up on a single that got through the right side to score Ryan Brooks.  The go-ahead run was scored on the next at-bat when Caleb Ledbetter singled to left field to bring Dupree in for the winning run.  Tyler Krabbe doubled down the left line to score both Furuto and Ledbetter to cap off the scoring in the inning.

The Falcons added four more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Two runs came off the bat of Ledbetter who homered to right center, while the other two came from a Samuels home run to left center.

Drew Mullinax got the start for the Falcons in today's game and went 3 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on six hits while striking out five batters.

Anthony Porter (2-0) entered the game in relief and earned the win. The freshman pitched 5 1/3 innings and only allowed two hits and struck out five batters.

UP NEXT

The Falcons travel to Tuskegee to face the Golden Tigers for the second time this season on Wednesday, March 1st.  The Falcons defeated Tuskegee 11-3 in their home opener back on February 8th.  The first pitch of Wednesday's game is scheduled for 2:00 pm CT.
