HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons kicked off the season with an 8-6 win over Eckerd College in the first game of a three-game series.
Montevallo brought the first run of the game across in the top of the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Tritons. Daniel Pardo led off the inning with a single up the middle, but a pair of strikeouts looked to strand the second runner of the game for the Falcons. Dom DeVille advanced Pardo into scoring position after being awarded the base on a hit by pitch. Sebastian Samuels hit an RBI double to left field to plate Pardo and gave the Falcons the early lead.
The Tritons were quick to respond with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the ballgame at 1-1.
Montevallo found themselves in a 6-1 hole after giving up five runs in the fifth inning.Â
However, the Falcons rallied back in the final two innings that started with Montevallo capitalizing on a pair of errors by the Tritons. Khari Anderson reached base due to a throwing error by Eckerd's Justin Glover and scored a couple plays later on a passed ball. The final run of the inning came off a sacrifice fly from DeVille to plate Pardo and cut the Tritons lead to 6-3.
Montevallo continued the rally in the top of the ninth inning. The Falcons plated a total of five runs in the inning to take an 8-6 lead over the Tritons. Eckerd's Cameron Lanzilli loaded the bases and then hit Matthew Furuto and walked Caleb Ledbetter in back-to-back at-bats to pull Montevallo to within one run of the lead.Â
The go-ahead run was scored on a bases-clearing double by DeVille who hit deep into the centerfield gap to score Pardo, Furuto, and Ledbetter.
Anthony Porter (1-0) earned the win for the Falcons and Cas Silber was credited with the save.
