HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons and the Mountain Lions wrapped up their three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. Montevallo split the doubleheader with Young Harris to win the series 2-1.
Young Harris was the first to get on the board in the opening game. In the bottom of the first inning, the Mountain Lions plated a run to take an early 1-0 lead.
Collin Dupree tied the game up at 1-1 in the top of the second inning with a RBI single that scored Daniel Pardo.
The Mountain Lions retook the lead in the bottom of the second frame after plating a run to make it a 2-1 ball game.
Montevallo took the lead again in the fourth inning off a trio of runs. Ryan Brooks scored the tying run on a wild pitch and Caleb Ledbetter drove in two runs with a double into left field to give the Falcons a 4-2 lead.
The Falcons used a seven-run, fifth inning to take a commanding 11-2 lead over Young Harris.Â
Young Harris scored six unanswered runs to pull it to an 11-8 ball game late in the sixth inning and eventually tied the game at 12-12 in the eighth after outscoring the Falcons 10-1.
Ledbetter drove in the go-ahead run on his second double of the day, this time into right center field.
Anthony Porter started on the mound for the Falcons and pitched four innings. In today's outing, he gave up five runs on nine hits.
Tanner Koch entered the game in relief and threw 3 1/3 innings and allowed six runs on five hits.
Colton Nussel (2-4) earned the win and tossed the final 1 2/3 innings of play. Nussel allowed just one run on one hit and struck out two batters.
In the second game of the day, the Falcons struggled to get into an offensive rhythm. Montevallo managed to score just four runs in the game.
Young Harris took advantage of the Falcons slump and used three big innings to gain separation from the Falcons. The Mountain Lions outscored the Falcons 14-2 through seven innings of play.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Falcons added two more runs to their total on a home run by Chad Wagner.
Young Harris held on for the 14-4 decision and the game two victory.
Justin Whitley (4-5) started on the mound for the Falcons and was credited with the loss in game two. Whitley gave up five runs on seven hits through four innings of work.
Jake Posey entered the game in relief and allowed five runs on six hits in 2/3 of an inning.
Nathan Mitchell entered the game and tossed 1 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on four hits.
Jesse Ellefson finished the game on the mound for the Falcons and struck out two batters in 1 2/3 innings.
