HOW IT HAPPENED

Montevallo and West Alabama met for the second time this season with the Falcons coming away with a 16-13 victory in the second game to split the regular season series with the Tigers.

West Alabama wasted little time getting on the board and plated four runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead over the Falcons. In the second inning, the Tigers scored two more runs to make it a 6-0 ballgame.

Montevallo got on the board in the bottom of the second inning to cut into the Tigers lead.  The Falcons scored on a sacrifice fly by Dom DeVille and then again on a single up the middle from Collin Dupree to score Daniel Pardo.  At the end of the inning, the Falcons trailed the Tigers 6-2.

After the Tigers scored a run in the top of the third inning, the Falcons responded with a pair of runs that came off the bat of Tyler Krabbe, who doubled down the left field line to score Sebastian Samuels and Caleb Ledbetter.  The Falcons headed into the fourth inning trailing the Tigers 7-4.

In the fourth inning, the Tigers scored three runs and the Falcons came back in the bottom of the inning with four runs of their own.  Ledbetter drove in a run on a RBI double and Krabbe tripled down the left line to plate three more runs to pull the Falcons to within two runs of the lead (10-8).

Again, in the sixth inning, the Tigers scored three runs to try and outpace the Falcons.  Montevallo came back in the bottom of the inning with four runs of their own.  Samuels hit a three RBI home run and DeVille recorded a RBI single to make it 13-12.

Ledbetter recorded the go-ahead run for the Falcons on a two-RBI double into left field in the seventh inning to give the Falcons a 14-13 lead.

Ryan Brooks and Matthew Furuto added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Brooks had a solo home run and Furuto singled through the left side to give the Falcons a 16-13 lead.

Jamison Roney started on the mound for the Falcons and threw two innings and allowed six runs on eight hits.

Anthony Porter and Justin Whitley each tossed two innings.  Porter struck out three batters and gave up four runs on five hits. Whitley also allowed five hits and gave up three runs while striking out one batter.

Drew Mullinax (4-1) entered the game and earned the win after 1 1/3 innings of work.  Mullinax didn't allow a hit and struck out one batter.

Colton Nussel earned the save, his second of the season, and threw 1 2/3 innings.
