Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Montevallo men's tennis team swept host Christian Brothers University 9-0 in its Gulf South Conference opener Feb. 8.
The Falcons improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Gulf South Conference play with the victory.
"The men played very strong doubles today and brought tremendous energy to the courts," said Montevallo men's tennis coach Adam Albertsen, who recently picked up his 100th career victory as a coach. "I'm very pleased with how we opened up conference play."
Freshman Georg Trompler defeated Atilio Flores of Christian Brothers 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 in the No. 1 singles' match. Freshman Petter Dahlin topped the Buccaneers' Lorenzo Maccarini 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 in the No. 2 singles' match.
Sophomore Jan Fraederich took down Javier Saez of Christian Brothers 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles' match. Freshman Daniel Del Val defeated the Buccaneers' Andres Calzacorta 6-0, 4-6, 10-4 in the No. 4 singles' match.
Freshman Sergi Martinez knocked off Nick Cotros of Christian Brothers 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles' match. Freshman Gavin Salton topped the Buccaneers' Abel Kim 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles' match.
Del Val and Martinez defeated Flores and Calzacorta 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles' match. Freshman James Bloomer and Dahlin swept Kim and Cotros 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles' match.
Freshman Brecht Van Buggenhout and Trompler topped Saez and Maccarini 8-2 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Feb. 17 in their first home match since reinstatement against Emmanuel College. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
