Montevallo defeats Hawks 8-1 in conference match

ROME, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men's tennis defeated host Shorter University 8-1 in a Gulf South Conference match March 28.

The Falcons, who recently entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II national rankings at No. 44 nationally, improved to 12-4 overall and 4-3 in Gulf South Conference play.

Freshman Petter Dahlin, who is ranked No. 40 nationally in the latest ITA NCAA Division II singles' rankings, defeated the No. 26 singles' player nationally from Shorter 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles' match.

Sophomore Jan Fraederich topped his opponent 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles' match. Freshman Daniel Del Val claimed the No. 3 singles' match with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) victory in the No. 3 singles' match.

Freshman Sergi Martinez won the No. 4 singles' match 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Tanguy David defeated his opponent in the No. 5 singles' match 6-1, 6-0.

Freshman Gavin Salton claimed the No. 6 singles' match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.           

Freshman James Bloomer and Dahlin won the No. 2 doubles' match 8-2, while freshmen Brecht Van Buggenhout and Milan Ludlage captured the No. 3 doubles' match with a 8-2 win.

Martinez and Del Val fell in the No. 1 doubles' match 8-4.

The Falcons will return to action Friday, March 30 in a home Gulf South Conference match against the University of North Alabama.
