MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's tennis team defeated in-state rival UAH in a Gulf South Conference match March 8.
The Falcons improved to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in Gulf South Conference play following the victory.
The Falcons raced out a 2-0 lead in doubles' play before the No. 1 doubles' team of Daniel Del Val and Sergi Martinez overcame a 5-2 deficit to help the Falcons' sweep the doubles' competition with a 8-6 win over the Chargers' Dylan Hall and Timo Christen in the match.
"This was a great team win," said Montevallo men's tennis coach Adam Albertsen. "Sweeping all three doubles' matches set the tone and gave our team a huge wave of energy heading into singles' play. I'm extremely proud of the fight that we brought to the courts today."
Freshman Petter Dahlin claimed the No. 1 singles' match with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Hall. Sophomore Jan Fraederich won the No. 2 singles' match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of the Chargers' Tim Nutz.
Del Val defeated the Chargers' Elliot Hopson 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles' match. Martinez topped James Caddies of UAH 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 in the No. 4 singles' match.
Freshman David Tanguy knocked off the Chargers' Noah Pring 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 in the No. 5 singles' match. Freshman Chandler Hagan fell to K. Roskell-Thomas of UAH 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 10-12 in the No. 6 singles' match.
Dahlin and Bloomer topped Hopson and Rodrigo Palomino of UAH 8-4 in the No. 2 doubles' match. Freshmen Brecht Van Buggenhout and Milan Ludlage defeated Pring and Caddies 8-4 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Friday, March 9 with another Gulf South Conference match against nationally-ranked Valdosta State University.
