Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's tennis team defeated Delta State University 5-3 in the quarterfinal round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on April 19 at the O'Connor Tennis Center.
Freshman Tanguy David clinched the victory for the Falcons (16-5) with his 6-4, 6-4 sweep of Stedman Strickland in the No. 5 singles' match.
Sophomore Jan Fraederich also defeated Mason Vice 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles' match. Freshman Gavin Salton took down Andrew Hildenbrand 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 6 singles' match.
Freshmen Brecht Van Buggenhout and Georg Trompler overcame a 7-5 deficit to defeat Strickland and Vice 9-7 to give the Falcons a 2-1 advantage after doubles' competition.
Dahlin and Bloomer easily defeated Hildenbrand and Yamacita 8-3 in the No. 2 doubles' match.
Montevallo, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, will face top seed and nationally ranked University of West Florida in the semifinal round Friday, April 21 at Lagoon Park in Montgomery. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
