Falcons Fall in First Game of South Regional 12-7 to Nova Southeastern

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jason Cryar went 3-of-5 from the plate and drove in three RBI in today's game and also scored twice.
  • Caleb Ledbetter was 3-of-4 from the plate and scored once for the Falcons.
  • Chad Wagner drove in a pair of runs on a double and was 1-of-5.
  • Collin Dupree and Sebastian Samuels each drove in a run in the game.
  • Alex Pondick (8-2) got the start on the mound for the Falcons and threw 6 1/3 innings.  In his outing, Pondick allowed nine runs on 12 hits and walked four batters while striking out only one.
  • Chrit Rudkin, Kale Latorre, and Colton Nussel all entered the game in relief for the Falcons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nova Southeastern jumped out to an early 4-0 lead over the Falcons in the bottom of the fourth inning.  The Sharks plated a pair of runs in the second and fourth inning to take the lead over the Falcons.
  • Montevallo pulled the game to within one run in the top of the fifth inning when they plated three runs to make it a 4-3 game. Chad Wagner doubled to score a pair of runs and then was driven in by Sebastian Samuels.
  • The Sharks took a two-run lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when they plated another run to make it 5-3. 
  • The Falcons answered back to make it 5-4 in the sixth inning when Collin Dupree hit a sac fly into right field and scored Khari Anderson.
  • Nova Southeastern broke the game open with a total of seven runs in two innings.  In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Sharks put up five runs to go on top 12-4.
  • Montevallo answered back in the top of the eighth inning with a trio of runs that came on a three-run home run by Jason Cryar.
UP NEXT
The Falcons will play the loser of the Tampa/Delta State matchup tomorrow, Saturday, May 19th at 6:00 p.m.
