LAKELAND, Fla. - University of Montevallo sophomore Georg Trompler claimed the championship in the back draw bracket of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II South Regional tournament Sept. 21-24.

Trompler, one of four men's tennis student-athletes competing at the event, reeled off four consecutive victories in singles' action after dropping his first match in the championship bracket.

Trompler topped sophomore teammate Daniel Del Val in the finals of the back draw bracket with Del Val retiring facing a 6-1, 1-0 deficit.

Trompler defeated Gulf South Conference opponent Eban Straker-Meads of Auburn-Montgomery 6-4, 6-1 in the second round of the back draw bracket on his way to advancing to the finals.

Del Val also won four matches in the back draw bracket, including a 6-3, 3-6, 10-2 win over Valentine Hertwerk of Florida Southern to advance to the finals.

Sophomore Petter Dahlin won the Falcons' lone match in the championship bracket in a 6-3, 7-5 win over Hertwerk before falling to Jordi Mas of Valdosta State in the second round.

Dahlin and Trompler claimed the Falcons' lone victory in doubles' action after knocking off Tjimon Louisy and Jamison Burch of Florida Tech 8-1 in the first round of the championship bracket before falling in the second round.
