MONTEVALLO, Ala. - University of Montevallo junior Mariel Bertossi and sophomore Thomas Vaesen have been named the Falcons' Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 11.
Mariel Bertossi (Softball)
Bertossi led the Falcons to a 4-2 finish overall in the Charger Chillout last weekend. The junior registered a .667 slugging percentage and a .571 batting average. The Italian finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a double while driving in one run and scoring one run in the Falcons' 6-1 win over Ohio Dominican. Bertossi finished 2-for-3 at the plate while driving in two runs in the team's 5-2 victory against Georgia College.
Thomas Vaesen (Men's Lacrosse)
Vaesen registered 11 goals and three assists in the Falcons' 24-18 victory over Mars Hill University on Saturday, finishing with the second-most goals ever scored in a single match nationally in the NCAA Division II record book. The Canadian leads the team with a total of 15 goals in 19 shot attempts on goal, securing 20 points for the Falcons this season.
