PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo men's golf team finished in a two-way tie for second overall in team standings April 1-2 at the Argonaut Invitational hosted by the University of West Florida in its final tournament before the Gulf South Conference Championship.
The Falcons collectively carded a 6-over par 870 with round scores of 284-288-298 in the three-round event and finished tied with Limestone College for second in the event behind tournament champion and host West Florida.
"This was one of the best finishes in a big event that we have had recently," said Montevallo men's golf coach Justin Pratt. "We beat 11 ranked teams in this field. We have been really close to playing like this all spring so it is great to see us start clicking at the right time."
Junior Paul Murphy led the Falcons with his three-round score of 3-under par 213, which placed him in a tie for third overall in individual standings in the event.
Junior Charles Wood finished in a tie for 22nd overall in individual standings with his 4-over par 220.
Junior Luke Wilson carded a 6-over par 220 in the event, which placed him in a tie for 29th overall in individual standings.

TOURNAMENT NOTES
- Montevallo was one of five Gulf South Conference schools competing in the event, with the Falcons finishing ahead of Delta State, Lee University and Valdosta State and one spot behind tournament champion West Florida.
- The Falcons posted their best finish tournament finish since winning the Full Moon Invitational on their home course last September.
- Junior Paul Murphy became the first Montevallo golfer to finish a tournament under par this spring after carding a 3-under par 213 in the event, including the best round by a Montevallo golfer with his 5-under par 67 in the opening round as he went on to finish in a tie for third overall in individual standings.
- Montevallo carded its lowest round in the event with its 284 in the opening round, which marked the third lowest round by any team in the event.
