Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The nationally-ranked University of Montevallo men's tennis team edged in-state rival UAH 4-3 in a Gulf South Conference match April 4.
The Falcons, who are ranked No. 42 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II rankings, improved to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in Gulf South Conference play.
Sophomore
Gavin Salton clinched the victory for the Falcons with his 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (8-6) win over the Chargers' James Caddies in the No. 5 singles' match after winning both tiebreakers.
Senior
Georg Trompler, who was ranked No. 25 in the latest ITA NCAA Division II singles' rankings, defeated Timo Christen of UAH 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles' match. Freshman
Tobias Rauch topped the Chargers' Guilherme Coleta 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 6 singles' match.
The Falcons earned the doubles' point after claiming two of the three doubles' matches.
Sophomores
Petter Dahlin and
James Bloomer defeated Dylan Hall and Sebastian Rohrbach of UAH 6-3 in No. 1 doubles' match, while Trompler and sophomore
Tanguy David topped the Chargers' 7-5 in the No. 2 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action in a non-conference match Friday, April 5 against Morehouse College at 11 a.m.
