Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's tennis team fell to nationally-ranked Lee University 4-1 in the Gulf South Conference Tournament quarterfinals May 2 at Lagoon Park.
Sophomore Georg Trompler, who is ranked No. 10 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II singles' rankings, picked up the lone win for the Falcons with his 6-0, 6-2 win over Jake Okines of Lee in the No. 1 singles' match.
The Falcons dropped the doubles' point against the Flames, who are ranked No. 47 in the ITA NCAA Division II rankings.
Sophomores Petter Dahlin and James Bloomer fell to Okines and Bruno Medeiros of Lee 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles' match, while sophomores Georg Trompler and Tanguy David dropped the No. 2 doubles' match against Jesus Garcia and Cristian Pons 6-3.
The No. 3 doubles' match went unfinished.
Garcia defeated Dahlin 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles' match. Sophomore Daniel Del Val fell to Pons 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles' match.
Sophomore Gavin Salton dropped the No. 5 singles' match against the Flames' Daniel Prata 6-3, 6-1.
The remaining singles' matches went unfinished, but sophomore Tanguy David and freshman Tobias Rauch had each won a set against their opponents and were playing in the third set.
The Falcons, who end the season with a 10-9 overall record, advanced to the Gulf South Conference Tournament for the second consecutive season.
