BIRMINGHAM, Ala - The Gulf South Conference has selected a group of student athletes represented by all schools as finalists for the 2020 Commissioner Trophy, the league office announced Tuesday. Two Falcons have been included in the selection, tennis player
Georg Trompler, and Taylor Gonzalez from cross country/track and field.
Georg Trompler has had a phenominal career at Montevallo winning 61 combined singles and doubles matches for the Falcons. The junior from Schrobenhausen, Germany earned First Team All-GSC honors and was named an ITA Division II All American in 2019.
In her career as a Falcon,
Taylor Gonzales has competed for the womens soccer team and on to the cross country and track and field teams this past season. She started 58 games for the Falcons soccer program with 13 goals and 34 points. Gonzales used the rest of her eligibility to run for the Falcons cross country and track and field teams. The Overland Park, Kansas graduate student was a three-time GSC Runner of the Week in cross country and achieved All-Region status by the USTFCCCA and All-GSC while also qualifying for the NCAA DII Championships. Her success in Indoor Track and Field included earning a medal in the 3K in the first-ever GSC event.
The Gulf South Conference gives the Commissioner's Trophy to the league's top overall male and female student athletes, recognizing athletic, academic, and extracurricular achievement. The conference will release the "Top Ten" selections on Thursday, May 28
th followed by the announcement of the trophy winner on Friday, May 29th.
