MONTEVALLO, Ala - The
University of Montevallo baseball team had just won three out of four games when the NCAA cancelled winter and spring championships due to COVID-19. This led to UM making the tough decision to shut down the remaining spring sports seasons.
The Falcons were only able to play 21 of their 50 scheduled games this season due to the national pandemic. "It all happened so fast. It was heartbreaking to have to tell those guys that their season is over, easily one of the toughest days of my career" said head coach
Chandler Rose.
The Falcons were having a very successful season, as they led the conference in multiple statistical categories. Senior
Chandler Ingram led the conference in wins and saves after going 5-1 with four saves and 12 wins. Freshman Asa Awbry was second in the conference in batting average, in doubles, and in triples.
The 2020 seniors have experienced an ending to their career that they could've never anticipated. Coach Rose opened up about his group of seniors, "They are one of the best groups I've ever been around. Incredible group of leaders and great men. In all they are great people and it trickles down to our younger guys. I know they will go on to do great things in life."
