VALDOSTA, GA - After sitting in 10th place after one round, the Falcons men's golf team rallied over the last two rounds to finish fifth in the field of 13 teams at the South/Southeast Super Regional Preview at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club. The team checked into the clubhouse with a score of 13-over-par, 877, after shooting 3-over-par 291 in the final round.
The Falcons finished two strokes behind event host Valdosta State, who survived a dramatic final round slide to hold on to fourth at 15-over-par. Carson-Newman was third (+6), while West Georgia and Newberry College tied for first at 1-under-par.
Individually,
Gregory Jones and
Noah Dennis led the led the way for the Falcons. The duo finished tied for seventh at 1-over-par, 217.
Valentino Fantozzi tied for 37th with 8-over-par, 224, while
Eric Boutwell was 40th and
Bryant Raynowska tied for 52nd at 15-over-par.
"I am really proud of the way the guys battled the last two rounds," said Jones. "We didn't have our best stuff but we found a way to post some solid scores and move up the leaderboard. Each player had an important round this week to keep us in it and there are several things we can take from the tournament to learn from and build on."
Next week, the Falcons will travel to Carrollton, Ga. to play in the Matt Dyas Invitational at Oak Mountain Golf Club on Oct. 24-25.
