MONTEVALLO - Junior
Connor Daigle won three individual events and was part of a winning relay team, leading the Montevallo men's swimming to a 151-110 victory of Birmingham Southern on Saturday morning at the SAC Natatorium. Daigle came in first in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke and 400 yard individual medley (IM). He was also a part of the 200 yard medley relay along with teammates
Will Mahone,
Jacob Rubin and
Thom Naccarato.
In the 100 yard breaststroke, Daigle swam a 58.81 to beat the next fastest swimmer, Aden Kraft (BSC)Â by nearly three seconds. He had even more distance between himself and the pack in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 2:11.64. BSC swimmer Aden Kraft finished second six seconds behind Daigle at 2:17.55. That margin was even wider in the 400 yard IM as Daigle won the race with a time of 4:14.79 over seven seconds ahead the next swimmer to touch the wall at 4:21.44.
There were several standout performances in the meet for UM. Sophomore
Ray Asmakis won the 1000 yard freestyle and
Nicolas Ioannides was second as the Falcons finished one and two .
Jacob Rubin won the 200 yard freestyle, while
Parker Bell was third. The Falcons were one-two in the 100 yard backstroke.as Mahone won the race and Naccarato was second. Naccarato was also second in the 50 yard freestyle.
Rubin took first place in the 100 yard freestyle while Mahone won the 200 yard backstroke and Ioannides led the pack in the 500 yard freestyle.
Other top three finishers included Asmakis finished third in the 500 yard freestyle and
Kevin Watkins was third in the 100 yard butterfly.
The next match for the Falcons will be on November 20 against Millsaps on Nov. 20.
