UM receives additional votes in D2SIDA National Poll

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo women's basketball team is now receiving six votes in the D2SIDA National Top-25 Poll.  In the midst of an incredible season the Falcons previously received four votes within the same poll.  This is an indicator of the progress the program continues to make after a dismal couple of decades.   UM remained in the third place spot of the South Region poll.

Before head coach Gary Van Atta returned to the program in 2016 the Falcons had only experienced three winning seasons in the 20 years since the last time Van Atta was at the helm (1995-96).

"l'm really proud of the progress we are making in our program." remarked Van Atta.  "We have been taking small steps in the right direction. Win or lose this team is playing with a passion. They understand that success and respect are not given to you. They are earned."

The Falcon's have gained more momentum in the national spot light after taking down #5 Valdosta State in game two of their weekend series.  UM continues to lead the GSC offensively with a 79.1 points per game average, and defensively leading the league in steals for a 11.92 per game average.

Individually Marissa Snodgrass is the GSC assist leader, dishing out 59 total for a 4.9 per game average.  Savannah Lee has been a force on defense and is currently sixth in the conference for block shots with 10 on the season.  Kiya Sain has proven to be one of the most reliable free throw shooters in the GSC as she sits third overall in the league with 35/43 free throws made for a .883 FT percentage.  The Falcon's leading scorer Jordan Jones is also amongst the top scorers in the league, at number 12 overall.  Jones has had some of the most efficient minutes in the league scoring 161 points in only 302 minutes.

The Montevallo women's basketball program has returned to prominence and will look to continue to establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with.  "We still have a lot more work to do but I'm proud of how the players are buying into achieving the team goals."

The Falcons will be back in Trustmark Arena for a GSC match up against the West Florida Argo's with tip-off set for Friday, February 12th at 6:00 PM.
