MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo men's lacrosse team is set to begin the inaugural 2021 Peach Belt Conference Championships as the No.1 seed against the fourth-seeded Shorter University Hawks on Wednesday, at Varsity Field. Wednesday's game will be the semifinal round of the PBC Tournament with the winner set to play in the Finals on Saturday, May 1st at 3:00.
UM enters post season competition with an 8-4 overall record while going undefeated (5-0) in the Peach Belt slate. The Falcons wrapped up the 2021 regular season with a 13-11 win over UAH securing the title of Peach Belt Conference Regular Season Champions in the process. Montevallo currently leads the PBC in multiple statistical categories including goals per game (179 G, 14.92 AVG/G), assists (110 A, 9.17 AVG/G), points (289 PTS, 24.08 AVG/G), on goal shots (338 SOG, 28.17 AVG/G), man-down goals (6 G, .50 AVG/G), man-up goals per game (15 G, 1.25 AVG/G), man-up scoring percentage (15-50, .300 AVG/G), saves (204 S, 17.00 AVG/G), saves percentage (.604 PCT), and caused turnovers per game (131 CT, 10.92 AVG/G).
This year UM has been led offensively by
Thomas Vaesen who leads the entire PBC with 42 goals, along with
Trevayne Hunter who is second in the league with 33 goals on the season.
Ryan Shea has proven to be crucial for the functionality of the UM offense as he sits third in the conference in assists with 15 total to make a 1.5 per game average.
Defensively
Anthony Pecoraro has been one of the most tenacious defenders in the Peach Belt this season, leading the league in caused turnovers with 23, and is second in the league in ground balls with 49 for a 4.08 per game average. For the majority of the season
Kyle Little has kept the net for the Falcons, taking second in the league in saves and save percentage with 148 saves to make a .604 save percentage.
Shorter enters postseason play with a 2-9 record with a 0-5 record in the PBC. The Hawks are led offensively by Trey Edge who has a team high 17 goals and 13 assists this season. Huck McCollum has spent a majority of the season in the net for Shorter, making 167 saves for a .502 save percentage.
The first faceoff will be set for Wednesday, April 28th at 4:00 PM and will be played at Varsity Field instead of the typical UM Lacrosse Stadium venue. To enter the game students will be able to show their University of Montevallo ID for free admission. The cost for tickets will be $10.00 for regular spectators and the game can be streamed at the
