MONTEVALLO - Members of the Montevallo baseball team competed in summer leagues across the country for a chance to refine their skills in a competitive atmosphere against other college players. The Falcons experienced great success in various leagues with multiple players leading their teams in statistical categories.
"It's been a great summer for many of our guys. I'm really proud of them for how they've worked and represented our program this summer," remarked head coach
Chandler Rose. "I appreciate them going all over the country to continue their development for the program and their teammates. I know they've made memories that will last forever and they will see great results moving forward!"
Reed Latimer received the first-ever Cubb Stokes Offensive Player of the Year by the Ohio Valley League after he led the Madisonville Minors with a batting average of .386, and led the entire OVL with 42 runs batted in, and 67 hits. Latimer also scored 36 runs with 17 doubles, a triple, and seven home runs.
Dylan Freeman turned in an impressive summer for the Lima Locos leading the entire Great Lakes League in ERA and finishing 2
nd in the league with seven wins. In 48.1 innings Freeman posted a 1.68 ERA with 48 strikeouts. He only allowed 14 walks and 39 hits on the summer.
Catcher
Jake Smallwood also played for the Lima Locos this summer. Smallwood hit .259 in 81 at bats with 3 doubles, 1 homerun, 15 runs scored and 15 walks.
Evan Liddie played for the Madisonville Miners as well this summer. Liddie posted a .261 average in 153 at bats while adding 9 doubles, 25 runs scored, and 9 HBP's.
Asa Awbrey hit .223 for the Willmar Stingers during the summer league slate with 14 runs scored, three doubles, 22 walks, 8 HBP's and 9 RBI's.
In 142 at bats Shortstop
Brandon Moore finished the summer with a .275 batting average along with 27 runs, seven doubles, five triples, and 15 RBI's for the Rochester Ridgemen.
Ben Teel hit .293 this summer with 13 doubles, three home runs, and 34 runs scored for the Bismarck Larks in 198 at bats. He also added a team leading 32 RBI's and 18 HBP's.
Khalid Collymore batted .266 for the Bismarck Larks with 26 runs and 10 RBI's. Collymore added 21 walks, 10 HBP's and12 stolen bases in 139 at bats.
Ryan Curran posted a .212 batting average with 3 doubles, 16 runs and 17 RBI's. The outfielder also had 10 stolen bases, 12 walks and 6 HBP's.
In 137 at bats for the Fulton Railroaders,
Alex Langford turned in a great summer with 33 runs, 44 hits, five doubles, six home runs, and a .321 batting average. Langford added 21 walks, 6 HBP's and 4 stolen bases.
Logan Samuels also played for the Fulton Railroaders finishing the summer with 19.2 innings pitched. He had a 2-1 record with a 3.20 ERA and 17 strikeouts.
Joining Langford and Samuels in Fulton was
Jacob Rochester who finished the summer hitting .150 in 40 at bats. He added 10 runs scored, 2 extra base hits and 13 walks.
Mitch Fleming spent the summer in New York for the Batavia Muckdogs. Fleming hit .230 in 61 at bats with 4 doubles, 3 homeruns, 14 RBI and 10 walks.
Connor Phelan had an impressive summer in the Expedition League. Phelan led the Mining City Tommyknockers with 9 wins in 48.2 innings. He finished the summer with a 5.91 ERA, 33 strikeouts, 1 save and only allowed 9 walks.
Greg Lewandoski played for the Eau Claire Express and posted a .234 average in 107 at bats. Lewandoski had 4 doubles, 1 triple, 10 walks, and 11 RBI.
