Three Falcons Earn Spots on Academic All-GSC Teams

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Three athletes from the University of Montevallo have earned places on the Gulf South Conference Fall 2021 Academic team for their work in the classroom as well as in competition. Seniors Evelina Teran, Nemanja Acimovic, and Allye Darnell highlighted a list of 78 Falcons to be honored by the GSC for their academic excellence.

Teran is a mathematics major on the Falcons volleyball team with a 3.93 GPA. During the 2021 season, she led the team in kills, was second in digs, third in blocks and fourth in service aces. She earned several honors on the court, leading the Falcons to a runner-up finish in the GSC Tournament. She earn GSC All-Tournament team honors as well as first team All-GSC accolades. Teran as also named GSC Offensive Player of the Week (10/26). In addition, Teran earned spots on the Union Classic All-Tournament team and GSC/Sunshine State South Region Crossover All-Tournament team. To top off her career, Teran was named All-South Region honorable mention for 2021.

Acimovic is a computer informatics major with a 3.73 GPA. He was second on the Falcons men's soccer team in scoring with five goals and one assist in 2021. Three of his scores were game-winners for the Falcons, were the GSC regular season champions. His three game winning goals ranked him fourth in the conference. Acimovic earned GSC Offensive Player of the Week during the week of September 14th, 2021 after scoring two goals and adding an assist in a win over Saint Leo. For his performance on the field, he was named Second Team All-GSC.

Darnell is an exercise and nutrition science major with a GPA of 3.27. She started 15 of the Falcons 17 games in 2021. She led UM in scoring with five goals, three assists, and 13 points. She scored two goals in a pair of games this season, against Clayton St. (9/12/21) and AUM (11/4/21).
