BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference released the 2022-23 Preseason All-GSC team along with the Preseason Coaches' Poll and the Newcomer Watchlist with Montevallo's
Jordan Parker and
Isabel Grimes as two Falcons to watch in the upcoming season.
Parker comes to Montevallo as a junior transfer from Wallace State Junior College where she appeared in 27 games with an average of 5.9 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game and 0.96 blocks per game. The Chelsea, Ala. native originally signed with GSC-foe Delta State in 2020-21 when she appeared in five games for the Lady Statesmen before transferring to Wallace State.
"Jordan epitomizes the type of student athlete that thrives at UM," said Head Coach
Gary Van Atta. "She works extremely hard, loves the game and is a tremendous student. She is an excellent rebounder and defender. We look forward to her coming back home."
Grimes hails from Harbin, Ky. where she played five years as a guard for Breckinridge High School. She eclipsed 1,000 points as a sophomore to become the youngest player in Breckinridge High School history to achieve the feat. The freshman received All-District Honors for four straight seasons along with a 2021 Preseason Ms. Kentucky Basketball candidacy.
"Isabel is another perfect fit for the University of Montevallo women's basketball program," said Van Atta. "She is an extremely talented basketball player that can play any guard position. She is always doing whatever is needed for her team to succeed. She's an excellent ball handler and passer. She can score from the perimeter or when penetrating to the basket."
The Falcons were voted to finish ninth in the league after a 13-16 2021-22 season that saw Montevallo take on Union in the GSC Tournament. Montevallo's season was filled tight games including five conference losses by eight points or fewer.
Montevallo will tip off the season with two exhibitions against Southeastern Baptist (Oct. 28) and Jacksonville State (Nov. 1) before jumping into the regular season on Nov. 11 in the GSC-SSC Crossover Classic against Nova Southeastern.
