LIA EDWARDS | 5'10" | G | Rockdale County HS | Conyers, Ga.
"Lia comes from a long line of successful basketball players," said Van Atta. "Her father, Lonnie Edwards Jr., was a Hall of Fame standout player at University of West Georgia. Her grandfather, Lonnie Edwards Sr., was
Hall of Fame standout player at University of Montevallo. It was inevitable that Lia was going to choose basketball as her sport. She is an extremely versatile player that does whatever it takes to win. She will take a charge, dive on the floor for a loose ball or go up in traffic and get the needed rebound that could seal a victory. Offensively, she can play any position on the floor. She has tremendous guard skills. She can pass, dribble and shoot with the best of them. She also played an extremely competitive AAU circuit with the Team H2O Elite out of Georgia. She is an excellent student that is as driven off the floor as she is on the floor to be successful. Lia is a perfect fit for the Bricks at the University of Montevallo. Lia rounds out the talented 2023 class. Welcome aboard!"
The Conyers, Ga. native was named All-Region for three straight seasons before her senior year. A season ago, Edwards averaged 13 points per game with four rebounds per contest, three assists per game and three steals per game. She is a member of a Rockdale County squad that won the regular-season championship and made an appearance in the Georgia Final Four. Edwards is not only a star on the court but also in the classroom. She has been a member of the Rockdale County HS Principal's list for three-consecutive years. The future Falcon is also a member of the National Society of High School Scholars with a 3.9 GPA that ranks 27
th in her class of 432 students.
Edwards has family ties to the University of Montevallo and the Gulf South Conference. As mentioned above, Edwards' grandfather, Dr. Lonnie Edwards Sr., was one of the first African-American student athletes to attend the University of Montevallo.
Lia Edwards is set to join the rest of her 2023 Signing Class during the fall semester of the 2023 academic year.
