Falcons Finish 8th and Ahead of Three Ranked Teams at Flagler Spring Kickoff

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Montevallo women's golf team posted an 8th place finish at the Flagler Spring Kickoff, in St. Augustine, Florida, Tuesday.
 
In a loaded field the Falcons finished ahead of three ranked teams. Montevallo finished ahead of No. 16 Florida Southern (12th), No. 21 Saint Leo (13th) and No. 27 West Florida (9th), with a score of +42 in the three-round event. Additionally, the Falcons were the highest-finishing Gulf South Conference team in the Field.
 

As a team, the Falcons posted a 19-over first round to sit in 10th but moved ahead in the final two rounds. A 10-over 298 in the second round moved UM into ninth place and a round of 13-over on the final day saw the Falcons pass West Florida for eighth place.
 
A one-under 71 from Paulina Bermejo in the second round was the best round of the tournament for the Falcons and helped push the squad out of 10th place.
 
Bermejo finished the tournament tied for 20th after carding a three-round total of nine-over 225. Denise Paulsson wasn't far behind as the freshman finished tied for 25th with a 10-over 226.
 
Madison Rincon added a 13-over 229 to tie for 32nd while Caterina Oliveri rounded out a group of four Falcons in the top-40 with a tied-40 finish after carding a 15-over 231.

TOURNAMENT NOTES
  • Montevallo finished ahead of three ranked opponents and wasthe highest-finishing GSC school in the field.
  • The Falcons progressed up the leaderboard each day by moving from 10th after round one to ninth following round two and finally to eighth, passing No. 27 West Florida, after the final round.
  • Four Falcons finished in the top-40 as sophomore Paula Bermejo led the way with a tied-20 finish at nine-over.
  • Bermejo carded a one-under 71 in round tow, the lowest round of any Falcon in the tournament.
