DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo baseball team used a five-run 10
th inning to defeat North Georgia for their ninth straight win of the year, Wednesday.
Senior
Asa Awbrey opened the scoring in the top of the 10
th when he recorded his fourth RBI of the game by driving in
Reed Latimer with a double. Back-to-back-to-back walks for the Falcons scored Awbrey before a bases-loaded single off the bat of
Matt Simon plated the 10
th run of the game for UM. A bases-loaded walk and a hit-by-pitch pushed two more runs across in the frame, giving Montevallo a 12-7 advantage.
Following the five spot in the top of the 10
th,
Connor Phelan came out of the bullpen and struck out two in the final inning, securing the win.
Awbrey had a standout day at the plate for the Falcons as he smashed two homers, drove in four runs and went 3-of-5 from the plate.
Montevallo led 7-4 after a two-run homer form Awbrey, his second of the day, in the top of the 8
th.
North Georgia scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extras.
The Falcons improve to 13-1 overall after the road win and are ranked No. 8 in the latest NCBWA Top-25.
