Falcons Win Union Spring Bulldog Bash, Rincon Claims Individual Title

ATHENS, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's golf team won a team championship at the Union Spring Bulldog Bash, Tuesday, while Madison Rincon finished seven-under par to become the individual champion.
 
The Falcons posted a combined score of 29-over par for a first-place finish – 16 strokes ahead of Shorter in second.
 
Montevallo sat in third place following a combined total of 307 in round one. In round two, the Falcons dropped 15 strokes and moved into first place with a total of four over 292. Rincon fired a tournament-best five-under 67 in the round to help UM take control of first place. Montevallo kept the low scores coming in the final round with a six-over 294. Rincon added another score in the 60s with a final-round 68, securing the team and individual championship.
 
Rincon led UM with rounds of 74, 67, and 68 on the week at Canebrake Golf Club. The sophomore finished as the only player with a final score under par in the tournament.
 
Finishing second for the Falcons was freshman Denise Paulsson who finished third overall at nine-over. She turned in rounds of 77, 76, 72.
 
Meredith Bennett finished seventh for Montevallo overall and posted a score of 13 over. She posted round scores of 78, 73, and 78.
 
 
Caterina Oliveri rounded out the group of four Falcons in the top-10 as she finished tied-eighth with a score of 14 over. In her three rounds, she scored 78, 76, 76.

TOURNAMENT NOTES
  • Montevallo earned in second team championship of the year, Tuesday, in the Spring Bulldog Bash. UM kicked off the 2022-23 campaign with a win at the Full Moon Invitational in September.
  • Sophomore Madison Rincon earned the Individual Championship for the first time in her career.
  • Rincon is the second individual champion for Montevallo this year.
  • Rincon posted the lowest rounds of the tournament, 67 and 68, and was the only player in the 32-person field to card a round in the 60s.
  • UM earned two medalists in the event as Rincon finished first and Denise Paulsson finished fourth.
  • All four of UM's scorers finished in the top-10.
  • Montevallo finished ahead of three Gulf South Conference Programs in the tournament, defeating Shorter, Christian Brothers and Union.
Up Next:  The Falcons will compete in the GSC Championships on April 17-18 at RTJ at Magnolia Grove, in Mobile, Alabama.
