PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo baseball team dropped a pair on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader on the road against West Florida.
Montevallo drops its first series of the season, 2-1, following the doubleheader losses.
West Florida jumped ahead of the Falcons late in game one, winning 14-4, following a lighting delay. In game two, the Argonauts held UM scoreless for the first time this season to win 2-0.
Following the series, Montevallo moves to 27-7 on the year and is tied for first place in the league with a 13-5 record in the Gulf South Conference action.
GAME ONE
Much like the series opener on Friday, West Florida jumped ahead of UM quickly, scoring a pair of runs in the second. Montevallo responded timely in the third when
Sam Kuchinski recorded his 43
rd and 44
th RBI's of the season on a single to even the affair 2-2.
In the bottom of the third, UWF answered Kuchinski's two-RBI single with an RBI triple and an RBI single to go back on top by two, 4-2.
The home side plated a trio of runs in the fifth and broke the game open with five in the sixth to lead UM 12-2.
A two-run homer from
Ben Teel kept the Falcons alive in the seventh, 12-4, before the Argos added a pair in the bottom of the frame to hand Montevallo its first loss on the week, 14-4.

- Montevallo recorded 10 hits in the loss but were only able to score four runs.
- West Florida compiled 16 hits to score 14 runs.
- Barry Eiseman led UM with a team-high three hits as he finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
- Ben Teel and Sam Kuchinski added to their season RBI totals with a team-leading two each.
- Logan Samuels was given the loss marking the first time a Montevallo starter has recorded a loss this year. He is now 4-1.
GAME TWO
After a couple early runs by the Argos in the first and second innings, game two of the doubleheader quickly turned into a pitcher's dual.
Montevallo's
JJ Pease gave up UWF's two early runs but responded with four straight scoreless frames, allowing just one hits and two baserunners. The Pensacola, Florida native finished with seven K's in his first loss of the year.
The Falcons recorded their first of six hits in the second inning when
Reed Latimer recorded an infield single. In the fourth,
Sam Kuchinski doubled and Latimer singled again but UM was unable to cash in.
Kuchinski opened the final frame with a lead off single but a double play and strikeout ended the game as UM dropped its first series of the year with a 2-0 loss in game three.

- West Florida plated a pair of runs on five hits.
- Sam Kuchinski and Reed Latimer each finished 2-for-3 in the game.
- JJ Pease was solid in seventh start of the year with just two runs, five hits, and seven strikeouts. However, he recorded her first loss of the year to move to 5-1.
