MONTEVALLO, Ala. – In a midweek contest against the Tuskegee Golden Tigers, the No. 13 University of Montevallo baseball team earned its 30
th win of the year in a high-scoring affair, 18-14.
The Falcons set a new school record with 21 base-on-balls as a team. The mark eclipses the previous record of 18 set on Mar. 4, 2012 against UNC Pembroke.
With the win, Montevallo moves to 30-9 overall.
The Falcons finished with 10 hits and scored 18 runs, one shy of the season-high. In route to the 18 runs, the Falcons reached base 38 times and totaled 41 total bases. Montevallo walked a program-record 21 times and was hit-by-pitch six times for 27 free bases.
Tuskegee outhit Montevallo 15-10 on in the contest but only plated 14 runs.
In the top of the seventh with the game tied 11-11,
Chris Foster took to the mound and struck out two to hold the Golden Tigers off the board. Foster would go on to earn the win and improve to 2-0 on the year.
Following Foster's outing in the seventh, Montevallo plated five runs in the bottom of the frame to jump ahead 16-11. A bases-loaded walk from
Ben Teel pushed across the leading run before a
Sam Kuchinski sacrifice fly made it 13-11. Another bases-loaded walk, this time from
Luke Mitchell, pushed the lead to 14-11. Next, a pinch hit two-RBI single to left field for
Jake O'Connell plated two more and gave UM a 16-11 lead.
An RBI groundout from
Asa Awbrey and a wild pitch scored two more in the eighth inning as the Falcons went on to win, 18-14.
