MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The No. 8 University of Montevallo baseball team dropped a midweek matchup to Columbus State, 5-2, Wednesday, and snapped a five-game win streak.
The 32-12 Cougars jumped on the Falcons early with three runs in the second inning following a trio of consecutive RBI singles.
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Montevallo answered the visitors with a two-run homer from
Luke Mitchell, his sixth of the year, to make it a one-run game, 3-2, with two outs.
A wild pitch in the seventh extended CSU's lead to two, 4-2, before adding another run on a wild pitch in the ninth to lead 5-2.
Montevallo went three up, three down in the ninth to fall to 35-11 on the year with the 5-2 loss.

GAME ONE NOTES
- Columbus State scored five runs on eight hits while the Falcons added eight hits but scored just two runs.
- Montevallo left six runners on in the game but CSU left 10 on.
- There were just two extra-base hits in the game – a double for CSU and Luke Mitchell's homer.
- Ben Teel led UM from the plate as he went 3-for-4 with a trio of singles.
- Mitchell finished 1-for-4 and had the only two RBI for the Falcons.
- Sam Kuchinski went 1-for-3 and extended his hit streak to 22 games.
