Falcons Fall to UAH in Home Opener

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team drops their home opener against the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

GAME NOTES
  • Macy Martin led the Falcons and was tied for first for any player in the match with 11 kills.
  • Allie Dishman, Danielle Greene and Ellise Hanson all had four total blocks.
  • UAH hit their third lowest hitting percentage of the season at .158 while Montevallo hit at a .116 clip.
  • Both teams hit under .200 in every set.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
  • The Falcons jumped out to a 4-1 lead to open the match highlighted by kills from Kamble Frenette and Allie Dishman.
  • Montevallo extended the lead to 10-3 by taking the next six out of seven points.
  • UAH caught fire after a timeout and came within one by making it 11-12 by converting five kills during the stretch.
  • The Chargers went on a 6-1 run to capture the lead at 16-14.
  • After two kills from Macy Martin, UAH took three straight points on an attack error, a set error and a kill from the Chargers.
  • UAH finished the set off taking the next five out of six points.
  • UAH had 15 kills in 30 total attacks while the Falcons had 13 kills in 36 total attacks.
 
Set 2
  • Montevallo took another early lead on Chargers 7-4 but five straight points from UAH made it 9-7 in favor of the Falcons.
  • Kills from Ellise Hanson, Macy Martin and Brooklyn Hudson tied the set up at 10-10 all.
  • A three points swing saw the Chargers steal the lead back on three straight Falcon errors but UM responded with a three-point swing of their own with an ace from Colton Thompson and kills by Brooklyn Hudson and Kamble Frenette.
  • Tied at 17-17, the Chargers took the second set by taking the next eight out of 11 points.
 
Set 3
  • For the third set in a row, the Falcons seized the advantage in the set at 11-3 highlighted by three kills from Alex Koontz.
  • Three straight points from the Chargers shortened the lead to 11-6.
  • Kills from Kamble Frenette and Brooklyn Hudson alongside errors from UAH pushed the Falcon lead to 14-7.
  • UAH turned it up as they roared back to make it 15-17 with three kills from Zoe Smith and multiple other Chargers.
  • A kill from Koontz and an attack error from Alabama-Huntsville made it 19-15 over the Chargers.
  • Tied at 22-22, Montevallo would take the next two points off Charger errors but UAH finished off the Falcons with four straight points to spoil Montevallo's home opener.
 
UP NEXT
The Falcons will next take the court on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 5:00 PM as they travel to Rome, Ga. to take on the Shorter Hawks.
