HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
• Valdosta State earned the first two points of the match but a kill and an ace from
Macy Martin tied the set up at 2-2.
• Down 4-3, the Falcons took the next three points with a kill from
Alex Koontz and another Falcon ace but from
Allie Dishman.
• VSU had the lead at 8-7, but Montevallo rattled off six straight points with two kills from
Macy Martin and
Morgan Hoffman mixed with two errors on the Blazers, gave the Falcons the advantage.
• UM took another four-point swing started by a kill from Dishman and ended with one from
Danielle Greene.
• Valdosta responded with a 4-0 run of their own with multiple kills from Jojo Smith.
• The Falcons took the final points of the set with attack errors on Valdosta State.
Set 2
• UM came out strong with kills from Dishman and Greene to lead 4-1, then errors on VSU gave the Falcons a 7-1 advantage.
• Leading 11-7, Montevallo took the next eight out of nine points highlighted by kills from Hoffman, Martin and an ace from
Megan Schram.
• The Falcons won the set on three straight kills (two from
Kamble Frenette and one by
Macy Martin)
• Montevallo hit their best percentage of the night at .333.
Set 3
• After multiple kills from
Alex Koontz, Valdosta State showed their first sign of life as they took the next five out of six points to tie the set up at 5-5.
• Tied 8-8, Montevallo got the upper hand with two kills from Hoffman and another from Martin.
• The Blazers took a 18-14 advantage on the Falcons as they chipped away at the UM lead. While tied 14-14, VSU took the next four points with a kill, an ace and a couple Falcon miscues.
• Two straight kills from the Blazers gave them the third set to stay alive in the match.
Set 4
• The Falcons were looking to put away the Blazers early as they took a 10-5 lead on Valdosta led by
Danielle Greene and
Alex Koontz who had five combined kills during that stretch.
• VSU did not go away quietly as they took six out of the next seven points to tie the set up at 11-11.
• The Falcons seized the momentum as senior leaders
Allie Dishman and
Macy Martin had multiple kills each to make it 18-13 advantage UM.
• UM took the fourth set and the match with three consecutive kills from
Macy Martin.
• Montevallo hit at a .258 clips in set four meanwhile the Blazers hit at their second lowest percentage of the match at .061.
