BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the fourth time this season, Montevallo's
Cali Smallwood was named Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week after a week that saw the Falcons go 2-0 in league play.
Over the week, Smallwood averaged 17 points per game on a 50-percent shooting mark and a 40-percent clip from three to go along with an average of 5.5 boards during Montevallo's 2-0 stretch.
In the Falcons' 15-point win over West Alabama, the freshman scored 17 points on a 6-for-14 shooting clip with a 3-for-8 mark from three-point land while pulling down four rebounds. Smallwood then dropped a team-high 17 points paired with seven rebounds and two steals in a win over West Georgia. In the 66-63 win, the freshman knocked down a clutch three with 1.3 seconds to play to send the Falcons over the top.
Smallwood and the rest of the Falcons return to the hardwood on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m. to take on Alabama Huntsville.
