HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
- West Florida quickly jumped out to a 5-2 lead with three kills, a block and a Falcon error. Eliza Tyrrell and Nikol Antova collected kills in the run off Colton Thompson assists.
- The Falcons tied the score up at 5-5 with two blocks and an ace by Blakeley Robbins.
- After a West Florida kill, Montevallo gained the lead with a kill by Danielle Green and Eliza Tyrrell.
- Both teams exchanged points to an 11-11 tie but a kill by Claire Hayes an ace by Ava Wind gave the Falcons a 13-11 advantage.
- Down 14-16, UWF went on a 5-1 run including four kills.
- Montevallo was poised down the stretch as they took three consecutive points on a kill by Tyrrell, a kill by Hayes and an attack error on West Florida.
- The two sides battled to out with Montevallo having set point but West Florida took the final three points to take the first set.
- Despite dropping the first set, Montevallo hit at a .300 clip with only three attack errors.
Set 2
- Montevallo came out to a 4-3 lead with two kills by Hayes, a kill by Brooklyn Hudson and a block by Greene and Antova.
- With the lead on the Falcon side, West Florida took the next three points to take the lead.
- The Argonauts went on a 9-3 run including seven kills.
- UM fought back with a quick 4-1 run with kills by Greene, Hayes and Antova all assisted by Blakeley Robbins. Grace Petro picked up an ace in the run.
- UWF won the last four out of five points to close out the set.
- Montevallo had a .310 hit percentage in the second set compared to West Florida's .394.
Set 3
- West Florida did not let up by taking the first six point of the third set.
- After a timeout, UM took the next three points.
- The Argonauts extended their lead with a 6-1 run with three kills and three Falcon errors.
- The Falcons struggled in the finals et with seven kills and seven errors.
- West Florida totaled 16 kills and a .270 hit percent in the final set.
